Regardless of whether or not you need to buy a new pitcher, I am going to use the Marella Kompakt pitcher to flush out (pun intended:-) the two final "water points" to round up my earlier water intake recommendations.
I really like the Marella Kompakt water pitcher because it is, well, compact. It is handy for my small kitchen with a limited counter space. And I now use the 2nd (freebie) pitcher as my morning detox water supply (hold on tight, almost there, it will all make sense in just a few seconds:-)!).
Strangely, I don't believe that Mavea, the maker of the pitcher, had my unique needs in mind when it designed this great little pitcher. According to Mavea, this pitcher is designed to be small enough to fit your fridge's door. Which brings me to the first of the two points I want to make today:
Do NOT drink cold (out of the fridge or with ice cubes added) water. Seriously. Just don't and you will do your digestion a huge favor. You see, cold water slows down your digestion making it work a lot harder, be it processing contents of your meal or simply keeping your body happy freeing up your body resources to do other things (like combat colds, etc.) Ideally, the temperature of your water should never be colder than room temperature. Slightly warm is even better for your morning water intake. Which brings me to the last point and the bonus detox tip below.
Start your day with 8-16 oz of slightly warm water with a bit of freshly squeezed lemon juice. Room temperature water will do and anywhere between a generous squeeze of lemon up to an entire lemon is great. Your body works super hard overnight detoxing naturally while you sleep (thank you, liver!!!) and slightly warm water with fresh lemon juice is fantastic for flushing the accumulated toxins out and starting up your day on a fresh note! Try it and see how you feel. Some people report they don't even need their coffee afterwards!
This wraps up the two quick and simple water tips I want to share with you this week.
So, what am I doing with the two small water pitchers I go for myself? So glad you asked:-)!
One is sitting pretty on my kitchen counter not hogging too much space for all day use. It does not care that it can fit inside a fridge's door. And the other one is upstairs in my bedroom on my night stand, right next to my bed. I love it that it is so small and compact. When I get up in the morning, I pour and drink a full glass of clean filtered (room temperature) water before I even get into my shower. In my case, the warm water with lemon juice actually happens a bit later, after I get to my downstairs kitchen. After I drink my warm water with lemon, I get set on feeding my family, packing my kids' school lunches, etc. Which, of course, takes a while and gives me plenty of time before my first meal of the day. This works very well for me. As always, I encourage you to experiment with what works for you.
